Musical Theatre

MUSICAL THEATRE
Acting | Dancing | Singing

This is our core class at TheatreBox.  Its where most of our students start before moving on to our other additional courses such as Tap, Ballet, Contemporary, Intensive, etc.  Our main production at the end of the year is also based on the work created here.

For children age 5-6 years, classes last for 1 hr, (half hour Drama, half hour Dance)
For children age 7+ years, classes last for 2 hrs, (one hour Drama, one hour Dance)

We like to keep the age bands in our Musical Theatre groups reasonably tight so as to not have a large age range in each class.  Here’s how we break it down:

Tots – Junior & Senior Infants (primary school)
Juniors – 1st to 3rd Class (primary school)
Inters – 4th to 6th Class (primary school)
Seniors – 1st to 3rd year (secondary school)
Young Adults – 4th to 6th year (secondary school)

All students in this course dance and sing in our end-of-year production in the Theatre Royal and also have the option of auditioning for lead parts too.  They will also be given the option of taking a graded drama exam during the academic year if they wish, and the opportunity to perform a short in-house play with their class.  Coupled with opportunities to attend workshops and go on theatre trips, Musical Theatre @ TheatreBox is a great place to be to make friends, build confidence, and have fun!

Benefits:
Drama is an important tool for preparing students to live and work in a world that is increasingly team-oriented and helps students develop tolerance and empathy. It helps students improve self-confidence, self-esteem, self-expression, communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills, aesthetic awareness and, last but not least, imagination.

Dancing bolsters physical and mental health by helping to improve posture and flexibility, lift mood and ease anxiety. It's also a fun activity that sharpens the mind, increases aerobic power and strength, builds social bonds, and is a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes and sizes.  It develops your overall core strength, your balance, coordination and agility!

Singing is known to release endorphins, the feel-good brain chemical that makes you feel uplifted and happy. ... The response creates an immediate sense of pleasure, regardless of what the singing sounds like. Not only that, but singing can simply take your mind off the day's troubles to boost your mood.
